Kranti Gaud Fined for Unsportsmanlike Send-Off in T20 Asia Cup Final

India quick Kranti Gaud has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for a send-off that crossed the line during the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final in Dubai on Sunday, a reminder that even on the biggest stage, emotion has its limits.

The ICC found Gaud guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct, a Level 1 offence that covers “using language, actions or gestures which disparage, or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.” She also received one demerit point, her first in the current 24‑month period.

The flashpoint came almost immediately in Sri Lanka’s chase. Imesha Dulani, facing the first ball, audaciously lap‑swept Gaud for four, a bold statement in a final. Gaud came back hard. Three balls later, Dulani tried the same stroke and this time perished, and the India seamer, fired up by the quick response, gestured towards the pavilion in an animated send-off.

Match referee Supriya Rani Das deemed the celebration to have stepped over the acceptable line. With Gaud accepting the sanction on the spot, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Slow Over-rate Costs Pakistan

Discipline issues were not confined to the final.

Pakistan’s women were docked five per cent of their match fees for a slow over-rate in their semi-final defeat to Sri Lanka. Defending 130, Pakistan allowed Sri Lanka to reel in the 131‑run target in 18.4 overs, but fell behind the required over-rate once time allowances were factored in.

They were ruled to be one over short. Captain Fatima Sana accepted the charge after fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan reported the offence, closing the matter but underlining a familiar theme in modern white-ball cricket: every ball, and every minute, now carries a price.
