Ben Morris Leaves Glamorgan: Young Seamer's Future Ahead
Glamorgan will part company with young seamer Ben Morris at the end of the season, drawing a line under a brief first-team career that always hinted there might be more to come.
The 22-year-old, born in Abergavenny, has featured only sparingly for the county, with a single County Championship appearance and five One-Day Cup outings to his name. In a squad packed with seam options, chances have been thin. Morris has often been on the fringes, close enough to taste it, rarely given a sustained run to prove he belonged.
His standout moment came in 2024, when he returned figures of 3-52 against Essex in the One-Day Cup, a performance that suggested Glamorgan might have unearthed a useful white-ball option. The ball came out nicely that day, and for a while it looked like the start of something. Instead, it proved a high point in a stop-start spell with the club.
Morris’ most recent first-team appearance arrived in August 2025, and the gap since then has told its own story. Others have moved ahead of him in the pecking order, and the pathway to regular cricket in Cardiff has narrowed.
Away from Glamorgan colours, he has built a strong reputation with Cardiff UCCE and Wales National County, where overs and responsibility have come more freely. Those platforms have kept his name in circulation and his game ticking over while he waited for a clearer signal about his future.
That clarity has now arrived, and Morris has chosen to look beyond Sophia Gardens.
"I have enjoyed my time at the club, but I feel I still have a lot to offer in cricket and remain open to new opportunities, while being ready to explore a career away from it," he said, summing up the crossroads many young professionals reach in their early twenties.
The decision makes him the second confirmed departure from Glamorgan this year, following the retirement of 40-year-old stalwart Chris Cooke. One is at the very end of a long, distinguished journey; the other is barely out of the blocks and wondering which track to take next.
For Morris, the next ball he bowls may not be for Glamorgan. The question now is whether another county, or a different route in the game, gives him the platform his brief flashes of promise suggest he still deserves.
