Asif Khan Receives 15-Month Ban for Doping Violation
One of UAE’s most explosive batters, Asif Khan, has been hit with a 15‑month period of ineligibility after testing positive for a banned substance, a metabolite of mesterolone.
The sanction, confirmed under the ICC Anti-Doping Code, has been backdated. His ban officially runs from 8 September 2025 – the date an out-of-competition test was conducted – through to 7 December 2026, ruling him out of all international and domestic cricket under ICC jurisdiction during that stretch.
Asif, a mainstay of the UAE batting order since his debut in 2022, admitted a violation of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code, which covers the presence of a prohibited substance in a player’s sample. Rather than contest the charge, he accepted the punishment via a Case Resolution Agreement involving the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Cricket Council.
That decision brings clarity, but it comes at a heavy competitive cost.
The 34-year-old has built a significant white-ball résumé in a short period, with 38 ODIs and 56 T20Is for UAE, often providing the kind of power-hitting the emerging side relies on in qualifying campaigns and regional tournaments. All of that momentum now stalls.
The repercussions reach back as well as forward. Under the Code, Asif’s individual results from 8 September 2025 up to the start of his provisional suspension on 29 December 2025 have been disqualified. Every run, every contribution, every award in that window is wiped from the record.
That includes all associated rewards: medals, ranking points, prize money, and any other prizes are forfeited.
For UAE, it removes an experienced middle-order option at a time when every ICC event cycle matters for exposure and funding. For Asif, the clock now ticks slowly towards December 2026, when he will be eligible to return and attempt to rebuild a career interrupted at its peak.
