Referring to Eala, whose photo appeared during the segment, Wintour added: “We had the young Filipino star — you could see even in such a young star, how interested she is in fashion and how she wants to learn about it and follow it.”

For a player still carving out her place on tour, it was a powerful endorsement from a woman whose approval can define entire trends.

The meeting was not just virtual. During the tennis event in New York, Wintour and Eala were seen greeting each other and shaking hands, a brief but telling moment captured in a video shared by Facebook user Rulee Occiano.
