Antonelli's Stunning Victory Sparks F1's Madring Debut
Formula 1 leaves the old stones of Monza behind and heads into the unknown. Round 14 of the 2026 season lands at the brand-new Madring circuit for the Spanish Grand Prix from 11-13 September, with the championship fight jolted into fresh life.
Kimi Antonelli arrives as the man everyone has to beat. The Mercedes driver tore up the script at his home race, storming from 19th on the grid to a stunning victory at the Italian Grand Prix. It wasn’t just a win; it was a statement. In front of his home crowd, under the weight of expectation, Antonelli carved through the field and tightened his grip on the title race.
On the podium with him at Monza was team-mate George Russell, underlining Mercedes’ growing authority as the season heads into its decisive stretch. Max Verstappen, ever-present in the sharp end of the field, had to settle for third in the Red Bull, watching silver cars lock out the top two steps.
Gasly’s breakthrough, Ferrari’s bruises
Amid Antonelli’s charge, one of the weekend’s biggest shocks came on Saturday. Pierre Gasly, in the Alpine, delivered the lap of his life to claim the first pole position of his Formula 1 career.
