Yves Bissouma Set to Relaunch Career at Ajax
Yves Bissouma is set to relaunch his career at Ajax, with the former Tottenham midfielder close to signing a short-term deal in Amsterdam.
The 30-year-old, a free agent since leaving Spurs in June, is finalising an agreement that will keep him at the Eredivisie club until the end of the season, with an option for a further 12 months. The Mali international is already in the Dutch capital to complete the move.
For Bissouma, it marks a fresh start after a turbulent end to his time in north London. He joined Tottenham in 2022 from Brighton in a high-profile transfer and went on to make 111 appearances for the club, operating as the anchor in midfield and, at his best, dictating the tempo with his energy and aggression.
His Spurs chapter, though, faded badly. In August 2025, then Tottenham manager Thomas Frank left him out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Paris St-Germain, with persistent lateness cited as the reason. From that point, his future at the club never recovered, and his contract was allowed to run down.
Ajax now offer a different stage and a clear opportunity. A club built on possession, structure and rhythm is taking a calculated gamble on a player whose game once blended ball-winning with progressive passing in the Premier League.
The deal’s short-term nature underlines the stakes. If Bissouma rediscovers his edge in Amsterdam, Ajax gain an experienced international at the heart of their midfield and the option to extend. If not, both sides can walk away in the summer.
