Van Dijk draws a line on Gakpo
City are in active talks over a move for Gakpo, with the Dutch forward valued at around £80 million. Tottenham Hotspur have also made their interest known, but The Athletic report that City have emerged as Gakpo’s preferred destination at this stage.
Liverpool, though, are not in the mood to be pushed around in the final days of the window.
Bradley Barcola is undergoing a medical ahead of his move from Paris Saint-Germain, yet even with the France international on the way, Liverpool will not sanction Gakpo’s departure in the next 48 hours unless another winger is secured first. No replacement, no deal.

Van Dijk spoke with clear enthusiasm about the 21-year-old, recalling a specific Champions League goal the winger scored for PSG against Chelsea last season and highlighting his pace and attacking threat. “If he comes here, he’ll be welcomed with open arms,” he said.
That wasn’t just a polite greeting for a potential new team-mate. It was a pointed reminder that Liverpool still sit at the top table when elite talent chooses its next move.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that a club like Liverpool is a very attractive destination for very good players,” Van Dijk insisted. “This is one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
