Santos Lift FIFA Transfer Ban with NR Sports Support
Santos have finally cut loose the handbrake.
After weeks of paralysis in the market, the Brazilian giants are free to sign players again, having settled a long‑standing R$12 million (£1.7m/$2.3m) debt owed to Monaco over midfielder Jean Lucas. The payment lifts the FIFA transfer embargo that had frozen business since July and left a thin squad staring nervously at the relegation zone.
The rescue came from a familiar source. NR Sports, the agency that manages Neymar’s image rights and is run by his family, stepped in with an immediate capital injection, giving the club the cash it needed to clear the debt and unlock the ban. In return, Santos and NR Sports will share control over the negotiation and commercialisation of unallocated kit sponsorship space.
The club confirmed the breakthrough in an official statement on Thursday, hailing the end of the sanction and underlining how the deal was structured around that new commercial partnership. The message was clear: the embargo is gone, and Santos can operate again.
It was an emergency move, and it needed to be. The squad has been stretched to breaking point, the bench light on experience and quality while the club wrestles with an estimated total debt of around £13m. Every injury, every suspension, felt like a crisis. Now, at least, there is room to breathe — and to buy.

Top of the list: Arthur Melo.
The former Juventus and Barcelona midfielder has been identified as Santos’ primary target, according to Diario Sport. With the ban lifted, the club can finally push ahead with a deal they see as essential to stabilising the team on the pitch. Arthur, a technical, tempo‑setting playmaker, is viewed as a signing who can walk straight into the side and raise the level around him.
They need that lift immediately. Peixe sit just two points clear of the Campeonato Brasileiro relegation zone, a precarious cushion for a club of their stature. Every round feels like a referendum on their season.
