Sacha Boey's Bayern Munich Future Takes a Twist

What looked like a short Bayern Munich chapter for Sacha Boey may yet turn into something more substantial.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has confirmed that the French full-back is now more likely to stay at the club, after attempts to move him on this summer stalled before the close of the German transfer window.

“The probability is now greater that he'll stay here,” Freund said on Friday, drawing a line under weeks of uncertainty around the 25-year-old’s status.

Bayern had been prepared to offload Boey, whose time in Munich has been disrupted and unsettled since his arrival. A summer exit was the plan. The market had other ideas.

A suitable move never materialised in time, leaving Boey still on the books as the Bundesliga window shut. Instead of forcing the issue, Bayern appear ready to fold him back into the squad.

Freund stressed that Boey’s conduct throughout the process has strengthened that stance. “He's always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football,” he noted, acknowledging how quickly strategies can be ripped up by the realities of the market.

The situation now is clear. If no late opportunity arises from leagues where the window remains open, Boey will stay and compete for his place.

“When all transfer windows are closed and he's still here, then he'll remain a player in our squad,” Freund said.

For Boey, a summer that seemed to be pushing him out of Munich may yet hand him a second chance to prove he belongs there.
