Queens Park Rangers' Promising Start: Caution from Ian McCullough
Queens Park Rangers’ encouraging start has caught the eye, but one long-time observer is urging a little restraint.
QPR fan and journalist Ian McCullough sees genuine signs of progress in the early weeks of the season, particularly in the way they closed out their win at Blackburn.
“At Blackburn at the weekend, they won the game through the strength of the bench,” McCullough said, pointing to a key difference from last year. The impact substitutes, the fresh legs, the options in reserve – those are the areas where Rangers so often fell short in previous campaigns.
“They've got a real quality on the bench that they didn't have last season. In that kind of side the club has progressed,” he added, highlighting a squad that now looks deeper, tougher and better equipped to handle tight games.
The optimism, though, comes with a clear warning label.
QPR’s early fixtures have been kind, and McCullough is not ready to declare any corner fully turned while the evidence is still limited. “They've played three teams really that they should be beating - Blackburn, Portsmouth, Bolton. Had they lost any of those games, questions would be asked.”
That is the balance for Rangers now: clear improvement, a stronger bench, a brighter mood – all measured against the reality that the real examination is still to come.
