Brighton know the price. Millwall know their worth. And Femi Azeez is stuck between the two, waiting for the move he clearly wants.
Millwall have set a £15m valuation for the winger amid sustained interest from Brighton, who have already seen two bids – totalling just over £10m – turned away in recent weeks. The gap is clear. So is the tension.
The Nigeria international is understood to be keen on a switch to the Amex Stadium, a step up to the Premier League after a breakout season that pushed him into the spotlight. Brighton have made him one of their priority targets heading into Tuesday’s transfer deadline, but for now they remain around £5m short of Millwall’s asking price.
That stance has consequences. Azeez has been left out of Millwall’s last three matches, a conspicuous absence for a player who delivered 11 goals and 11 assists in 35 league games last season and earned a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year. For a club that unearthed him for around £1m from Reading in 2024, the numbers on the pitch and on the balance sheet both tell a story of sharp escalation.
Millwall’s position is firm but not unreasonable: they are prepared to let Azeez take the next step in his career if their valuation is met. With 24 months left on his contract, they still hold leverage, yet they also know this is the moment to cash in on a player whose stock may never be higher.
There is interest closer to home in the Championship. Wrexham have also been credited with an eye on the winger, a sign of how far and how fast his reputation has grown. But that route sits firmly in the background. Azeez’s priority is a move to the Premier League, and Brighton are the club pushing hardest to make that happen.
As deadline day looms, the question is brutally simple: do Brighton climb to £15m, or do Millwall risk keeping an unsettled star off the pitch while his best chance at the top level passes by?
