Liverpool Secures Ambitious Signing of Bradley Barcola
Liverpool’s summer just lurched from ambitious to audacious.
Bradley Barcola, long admired at Anfield and long protected by Paris Saint-Germain, is on his way. Fabrizio Romano has delivered his trademark “here we go”, confirming that Liverpool and PSG have reached an agreement in principle for the France international winger, with only the paperwork and medical formalities left to clear.
This is not a speculative punt. It’s a statement.
Liverpool land their top wide target
Liverpool have been circling Barcola for weeks, having earmarked him as their priority signing for the left flank. The club have tracked him for a long time and, according to Romano, originally had him down as a major target for summer 2025. The plan has been accelerated. When the chance came to do it now, they moved.
The numbers are huge. Liverpool will pay a guaranteed £100m to PSG, with additional add-ons built into the agreement. Sources at PSG, Romano reports, believe the total package will reach around €140m once those clauses are triggered.
PSG are satisfied. Liverpool are delighted. Barcola, crucially, gets the move he wanted. All parties, Romano says, are “happy”.
The deal is at the final stages. The documents must be drawn up, exchanged and checked by lawyers before Barcola receives authorisation to travel for his medical and contract signing on Merseyside. The heavy lifting is done. Barring a late twist, Liverpool are about to add one of Europe’s most coveted wide forwards to an already fearsome attack.
It is also a quiet rebuke to the noise of recent weeks. Reports in France and England had repeatedly suggested Barcola would not be allowed to leave PSG, that he was off the market, that it would take impossible money – figures as wild as €170m were floated. Liverpool never walked away. Romano insists he kept pointing back to the Barcola–Liverpool connection, and to the reality that any deal would be expensive, but not absurd.

The Gakpo question
One big move tends to trigger another. At Anfield, the spotlight now swings towards Cody Gakpo.
The Dutchman’s future has been the subject of persistent speculation this summer. Tottenham have been strongly linked. Manchester City have now joined the conversation. Romano claims both clubs remain in “constant contact” to gauge the situation, with Gakpo already having an agreement in place with Spurs, while his agents also speak to City.
Liverpool’s next step in the market hinges on that decision.
The club have not treated Barcola as the only attacking addition. They have been actively exploring options for a second winger in case Gakpo leaves. Bids for Yankuba Minteh have been rejected, and Liverpool have made enquiries about Ismaila Sarr as they test what is possible in a tricky market.
Romano is clear on the sequence: if Gakpo goes – to Tottenham or to Manchester City – Liverpool will move again for another wide forward. If he stays, they are prepared to go into the season with Barcola added to the current group.
So the equation is brutally simple. Barcola is coming. The next domino is Gakpo.
Liverpool have landed one of the most exciting wingers in world football. Now the club must decide whether this new era in the front line is built around Gakpo as well, or whether his departure funds the final piece of a reshaped attack.
