Liverpool are weighing up a January move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with the Senegal international emerging as a serious target after his dramatic deadline-day collapse at Chelsea.

Camara, 22, was on the brink of joining Chelsea in the final hours of the summer window. He held lengthy talks over his role at Stamford Bridge and, according to reports, had given the green light to the move before Monaco pulled the plug late on. A report from Football Insider claims Liverpool have already held talks over a potential deal and are closely tracking his form in Ligue 1. Transfer insider Mick Brown says Camara’s name has been “discussed behind the scenes” at Anfield and believes there is “definitely a deal to be done” after the near-miss with Chelsea.

Week after week, Mitchell gets on with his job, rarely making headlines but rarely putting a foot wrong either.

That profile appeals to more than one giant. Brown namechecks both Liverpool and Chelsea as potential suitors, with Manchester United already in the frame. Liverpool’s scrutiny of Kerkez’s form and Tsimikas’ uncertain future naturally opens the door to an external solution. Chelsea, as ever, lurk in the background, ready to pounce on any deal that brings in proven Premier League quality without the kind of astronomical fee attached to Europe’s most hyped full-backs.

Mitchell would tick plenty of boxes: homegrown, Premier League-tested, defensively secure, improving going forward. The kind of signing that doesn’t dominate social media but quietly upgrades a key position.

So Liverpool head towards January with two clear fault lines in their squad and two very different possible answers: a high-priced, high-ceiling midfielder in Camara and a steady, battle-hardened left-back in Mitchell.
