Leeds United Close to Signing Melvin Bard on Deadline Day
Leeds United are closing in on a deadline-day move for Nice defender Melvin Bard, a deal that underlines both their urgency and their intent.
The 25-year-old left-back is travelling to Elland Road to undergo a medical ahead of an initial loan switch, with Leeds set to pay the French club around one million euros for the season. Crucially, the agreement includes an option to buy at the end of the campaign for a further five million euros.
For Daniel Farke, it is a move born out of necessity as much as opportunity.
Farke finally gets cover at left-back
Leeds have been walking a tightrope at full-back. Gabriel Gudmundsson has been the only natural left-sided defender available, a risky position for a side with promotion ambitions and a demanding schedule.
Bard’s arrival changes that picture. A product of French football and schooled at the top level with Nice, he offers balance, energy, and a specialist’s understanding of the role on the left. The structure of the deal also suits Leeds: a relatively low-cost audition now, with the option of a permanent solution if he convinces over the season.

Willy Gnonto is in Florence to complete his move to Fiorentina, a return to Serie A that has hovered over Leeds’ planning in the final days of the window. The Italian’s switch began as a loan agreement, but it depended on Leeds sourcing a replacement before they allowed him to leave.
They thought they had their man. A move for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk gathered pace, only for Tottenham to step in and hijack the deal, leaving Leeds without their targeted reinforcement out wide.
So the club now juggle two storylines at once: defensive stability on the horizon with Bard’s imminent arrival, and a forward line stripped of one of its brightest talents.
