Fiorentina in Talks for Joshua Zirkzee Loan from Manchester United
Fiorentina are in talks with Manchester United over a loan move for Joshua Zirkzee, as the Dutch forward edges towards the exit at Old Trafford after two stuttering seasons.
The proposed deal is straightforward on paper, far more complex in meaning. Fiorentina want an initial loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy next summer. United are listening. Zirkzee, with three years left on his contract, is open to the switch and to a return to Serie A, where his career last truly caught fire.

It never really was.
Across two seasons, Zirkzee has struggled to nail down a regular starting place. Seventy-five appearances sound substantial, but only 27 of those have been starts. Cameos became a pattern, not a platform. In the 2025-26 Premier League campaign he started just five games, a stark number for a forward signed to help reshape United’s attack.
Nine goals in all competitions is a modest return for a £36.5m signing at a club of United’s scale. The talent is evident, the output less so. At 25, he now sits at a crossroads that has arrived earlier than many expected when he left Bologna.
For Fiorentina, the opportunity is obvious. They know the league, they know the player, and they remember the version of Zirkzee who thrived in Italy. A loan with an option to buy gives them protection if he fails to ignite, and a clear path to a permanent deal if he does.
For United, it is a chance to ease a crowded forward line, give a frustrated player a fresh stage and potentially protect his value. If Zirkzee rediscovers his Serie A form in Florence, they either bring back a more confident striker or cash in from a stronger negotiating position.
