Fighter Addresses Allegations and Focuses on Identity After Defeat

He didn’t talk about tactics. He didn’t talk about game plans, scorecards or what comes next in the rankings.

Instead, the fighter at the centre of a storm chose to speak about who he believes he is.

In a lengthy statement addressed “to my family, my friends, my fans and the people who truly know me,” he confronted the resurfacing of an allegation from his college days that his most recent opponent had dragged into fight week.

The message was blunt: he insists he did not do what was alleged.

He stressed that he was never charged with a crime and that the case was ultimately dropped by the district attorney, underlining that the accusations “were not ignored nor brushed aside.” According to his account, the matter went through a full law-enforcement process, including a separate Title IX review, with his full cooperation throughout.

“There were no criminal charges, no conviction, and no finding of responsibility against me,” he said, adding that the case is closed and that there is “no pending legal issue” involving him. He also pointed to his own attorney’s investigation, saying counsel stated on the record that even if the law had changed, the outcome would have been the same.

That, he believes, “now speaks for itself.”

He acknowledged the weight of the subject and the inevitable scrutiny that comes when only fragments of a story reach the public. Allegations of this kind, he said, are “serious,” and he accepted that people will have questions.

But the tone then shifted from defence to defiance.

“Moving forward,” he said, his focus will narrow to his wife, his young daughter, his wider family and “the work in front of me.” He repeatedly circled back to identity — to the version of himself known inside his own walls and by those who have been closest to him over the years.

“I know who I am. My family knows who I am. The people who have walked with me through life know who I am. That’s what matters to me and that’s where I’m going to keep my focus.”

Only after that did he turn to the man who beat him on Saturday night.

There was no excuse offered for the defeat, no attempt to blur the picture. “Congratulations, you caught me,” he said, calling it “a mistake on my end” and conceding that “it was your night.”

For a moment, he left the present and reached back to his wrestling days, to losses that once stung just as sharply. Back then, he said, those setbacks became fuel. He described how he responded with “an undeniable will to win and focus” that drove him to the top of his sport.

He believes this latest loss will do the same.

“The result of Saturday night, I believe, will catapult me to do the same. I will be great and this won’t deny me.”

In a week dominated by an old accusation and a fresh defeat, he has drawn his own battle lines: his reputation, in his eyes, rests with those who already know him — and his response, he insists, will be written in what he does next.
