Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell Lead Indiana Fever to Victory

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell didn’t just beat the Connecticut Sun on Friday night. They overwhelmed them.

Indiana tore through Connecticut 111-91 in Indianapolis, a statement win from a Fever team that now looks less like a plucky playoff story and more like a genuine threat for a top-three seed.

Clark orchestrated everything. She piled up 34 points and 12 assists, drilling half of her attempts from beyond the arc and bending the game to her tempo. When she wasn’t pulling up from deep, she was carving the Sun apart in transition, spraying passes to shooters and cutters who suddenly found the floor wide open.

Mitchell matched her star backcourt partner shot for shot. She poured in 34 points of her own, hitting 63 percent from the field and punishing every defensive mistake. Whenever Connecticut showed Clark extra attention, Mitchell made them pay.

The damage came fast.

Indiana entered the night as a heavy 17.5-point favorite, and for a quarter it looked like the oddsmakers might have overshot it. Then the second period hit, and the Fever detonated. They outscored the Sun 39-15 in a blistering 10 minutes that turned a contest into a chase.

By halftime, Indiana led 58-43. Clark had already stacked 18 points and seven assists. Mitchell sat right behind her with 17. The Sun had no answer for the constant pressure—early drag screens, quick-hitting actions, and threes launched before the defense could even get set.

Diamond Miller did everything she could to drag Connecticut along. She went into the break with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists, the one Sun player consistently punching back against the wave of offense coming at her.

The hole, though, was deep. Too deep.

Connecticut kept swinging in the second half and finally made a dent late. With 4:39 to play, the Sun had trimmed the deficit to 11, a flicker of jeopardy in a game Indiana had largely controlled. But that furious second-quarter run still hung over the night. The early avalanche never really stopped echoing, and the Sun could only chase shadows from there.

Even on a quiet offensive night, Sophie Cunningham found ways to matter. She finished with two rebounds, a steal and a block—small numbers, but the kind of defensive and hustle plays that helped Indiana keep its grip on the game when Connecticut threatened to surge.

The win moves the Fever to 26-14 and keeps them lodged firmly in the upper tier of the standings. The No. 1 seed looks distant now, but the No. 2 and 3 spots remain very much in play as they jostle with the Dream, Las Vegas Aces, Golden State Valkyries and Minnesota Lynx.

This is no longer just about making the postseason. With Clark and Mitchell firing like this, the question becomes sharper: how high can this Fever team climb when the real games begin?
