Burton Albion Signs Winger Caylan Vickers from Brighton
Burton Albion have dipped into Premier League stock to sharpen their attacking edge, sealing the signing of winger Caylan Vickers from Brighton for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old has committed to a two-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium, with the Brewers holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. It is a move that feels deliberate rather than speculative: a young wide player, already tested in League One, brought in to make an impact now, not just someday.
Vickers arrives with the division already on his boots. Loan spells at Barnsley and Wigan Athletic last season gave him a clear look at the tempo, the physicality and the relentlessness of the league he now calls home. Burton are banking on that grounding paying off quickly.
He came through the ranks at Reading, where his potential first caught the eye, before Brighton moved to secure him. Opportunities on the south coast never quite opened up into a first-team appearance for the Seagulls, but the Premier League club have effectively provided Burton with a winger polished in a top-flight environment and hungry for regular football.
"He's an attacking player who will excite our supporters whilst adding goals and assists to the team," said Brewers head coach Gary Bowyer. The expectation is clear: end product, not just promise. "Having played at this level already, he arrives ready to contribute and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop with us."
For Burton, it is a statement about how they want to play. Pace and directness out wide, risk in the final third, a willingness to trust a 21-year-old to tilt tight games. For Vickers, it is the chance he has been waiting for: a permanent home, a defined role, a crowd to win over.
The timing is sharp, too. Burton are at home to AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening. The ink on Vickers’ contract is barely dry, but the stage is already set for him to show why the club moved quickly to bring him to the Pirelli.
