Bayern Munich have made their intentions brutally clear: Michael Olise is not just part of the project. He is the project.
According to French outlet L'Équipe, the German champions are preparing a new contract for the French winger that would make him the highest-paid player at the club, even though his current deal already runs until 2029. That is not a routine extension. That is a statement.
From Crystal Palace talent to Bayern centrepiece
Olise arrived from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2024 as a highly rated talent. At 24, he has gone beyond that label. He has become one of Bayern’s standout performers, a player the hierarchy now view as a cornerstone for the next cycle in Munich.
The club are ready to “dig deep” to keep him, L'Équipe reports, and that means pushing him past some illustrious names on the wage ladder. As of April 2026, Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala sat at the top of Bayern’s salary structure, each earning around 2.1 million euros per month. Behind them came Manuel Neuer on 1.75 million, with Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano both on 1.66 million.
Olise is poised to leapfrog the lot.

The France international has long been linked with a dream move to Real Madrid. That dream will have to wait. The club’s stance is firm: he will stay in Germany for at least another season, with the new deal designed to lock him in for the long term.

There is one important twist. The first contract Olise signed at Bayern did not include a release clause. Any extension is expected to change that. If the two sides reach an agreement, the new deal will almost certainly come with a buyout clause inserted.
It is a compromise that suits everyone. Bayern protect their asset and set the price. Olise secures elite-level wages and a clear pathway, while keeping a door – however expensive – slightly ajar for the future.
