Aston Villa Secure €55m Deal for PSG Starlet Mbaye
Aston Villa have pulled off one of the boldest moves of the window, striking a €55m agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for teenage winger Mbaye and beating some of Europe’s elite to his signature.
The deal, as reported by The Athletic, is being finalised with paperwork in motion, but the hard part is done: Villa have matched the French champions’ valuation and secured a player many clubs had circled for years, not months.
This was not just about money. The relationship between Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi helped unlock the move, smoothing negotiations at a time when competition for Mbaye was fierce. Liverpool were among the clubs monitoring him closely, yet Villa moved with far greater conviction and speed.
Unai Emery now gets a winger who fits his blueprint almost perfectly. Dynamic, fearless, and already tested at the highest level, Mbaye arrives as both a signing for the present and a cornerstone for the future.
From Versailles to Paris – and now Birmingham
Mbaye’s rise has been rapid. He joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in the summer of 2018 and tore through the youth ranks, quickly marking himself out as one of the most exciting prospects in the system.
By August 2024, at just 16, he made his senior debut for PSG. He did not just dip a toe into elite football; he dived straight in. Over time he became the youngest player ever to start a competitive fixture for the club, a milestone that underlined how highly he was rated inside the Parc des Princes.
Across 42 first-team appearances, he produced four goals and four assists. Those numbers only tell part of the story, but they show a teenager already contributing in a squad stacked with attacking talent. Last season alone, he played 31 times in all competitions, scoring three and setting up two. Ten Ligue 1 starts and one Champions League start gave him a taste of the intensity Villa will now expect every week.
European experience at 18 or 19 is rare. European experience at a club like PSG, rarer still. Mbaye has both.
A new star for Senegal
On the international stage, Mbaye has already made one major decision in his career. After representing France at youth level, he switched allegiance to Senegal and quickly became a key part of their plans.
He debuted for Senegal in November 2025 and has already amassed 15 caps. He was not just along for the ride at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations; he played six matches in their title-winning campaign, showing the maturity to handle knockout pressure.
The stage got even bigger at the 2026 World Cup. Mbaye started three games and scored against France on June 16, a moment that crystallised his journey: a player developed in the French system, punishing his former nation on the global stage.
Villa’s aggressive rebuild
At club level, Aston Villa are not just tinkering. They are rebuilding with intent.
Mbaye will become part of a sweeping overhaul that has already seen eight signings come through the door this window. Nicolas Jackson is expected to be the ninth arrival, adding more firepower to an attack that is being reshaped almost in real time.
Big names have gone the other way. Morgan Rogers has joined Chelsea in a £117m move, while Ollie Watkins has departed for Al Hilal, stripping Emery of two major attacking outlets but freeing up funds and space for a new front line.
