Arsenal have tied down their first signing for 2027 – and they’ve done it by beating Liverpool to one of Europe’s most coveted teenage prospects.

While the headlines this week focused on the clear-out of attacking options at the Emirates, the club were quietly locking in a move that says everything about how they see the next decade.

On paper, that sort of exodus would usually spark panic. Around Arsenal, it hasn’t. Mikel Arteta’s squad still looks stacked, still looks like the benchmark. Rivals know it. So do Liverpool.

At Anfield, there are still players of the very highest calibre, footballers who would walk into Arsenal’s starting XI. The problem is what lies beneath. The depth that carried Liverpool through their peak title battles is no longer there, and belief that they can go toe-to-toe with Arsenal across a full campaign is thin on the ground.

Arsenal, by contrast, are operating like a club that expects to stay on top. Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimarães, both 28, have arrived to drive the present. Yet the recruitment department hasn’t taken its eyes off the horizon.

This is where Andria Bartishvili comes in.

Arsenal win the race for Georgian prodigy

Over the summer, Arsenal and Liverpool both pushed to land the 17-year-old Georgian attacking midfielder, widely regarded as one of the standout talents of his age group.

Liverpool went as far as putting a contract on the table. It wasn’t enough.

The Premier League champions moved decisively, and on August 29, Fabrizio Romano delivered the line every club wants to hear attached to their business.

“Arsenal agree deal to sign 17 year old Georgian talent Andria Bartishvili, here we go!” he wrote on X, confirming the agreement.

Romano detailed the framework: a medical booked in London, a five-year contract waiting, and a deal worth €4.5m. Bartishvili will officially join Arsenal in 2027, once he turns 18.

The structure is unusual only in timing. Arsenal are effectively parking a first-team signing three years down the road, confident enough in both their trajectory and his development to commit early.

Medical passed, future secured

In the days after that initial announcement, Romano tracked the final steps. Bartishvili was on his way to London, the move to be signed off and the medical to be completed.

“Andria Bartishvili, on his way to London as he’s signing for Arsenal this week,” Romano reported, confirming that the agreement was in place for the teenager to join from June 2027, when he turns 18.

On Friday morning came the final piece.

“Georgian talent Andria Bartishvili can be considered a new Arsenal player,” Romano declared on X. Medical done. Contract ready. Deal formally sealed. Bartishvili is now locked in as part of Arsenal’s first-team plans from the summer of 2027.

Liverpool’s offer, and their need for long-term attacking invention, could not shift him from that path. Arsenal, already champions, have strengthened not just the squad in front of them, but the one that will follow.

The present belongs to Arteta’s side. With Bartishvili now in the pipeline, the future might as well.
