Akos Buzsaky, the gifted playmaker once adored at Loftus Road, has moved to calm growing fears over his safety after reports in Hungary claimed he had been missing for more than a week.

On Wednesday, concern surged through Hungarian media and among former clubs when it emerged that police in his homeland were searching for the ex-QPR and Hungary midfielder. For a player remembered for his composure and vision, it was a deeply jarring story.

Two days later, Buzsaky reappeared in the only way a modern footballer really can: through a post on social media. Writing on Facebook, in a message later shared by QPR on X, he confirmed he was safe and directly addressed the anxiety around him.

He explained that “serious changes” in his life over recent months had pushed him to breaking point and led him to step away from his daily routines. At some stage during that retreat, his mother contacted the police, a move he described as the result of a “misunderstanding”.

Once he realised the scale of the situation, Buzsaky said he cut short his time away and immediately informed the authorities. He used the same message to thank those who had worried about him, saying the outpouring of concern and affection had meant a great deal.

For QPR fans, the relief will be tangible. Buzsaky, now 44, lit up Loftus Road for five seasons after initially joining on loan in 2007, his left foot supplying moments that still live easily in the memory.

Before and after that spell in west London, he built a solid career in English football with Plymouth, Portsmouth, and Barnsley, finishing with 33 goals in 243 appearances across his time in the UK.
